Classification of pigtails

Like fiber jumper, pigtails are also divided into single-mode and multi-mode. They are different in color, wavelength and transmission distance. Generally speaking, the multimode pigtail is orange, the working wavelength is 850nm, and the transmission distance is about 500m; the color of single-mode pigtail is yellow, and the working wavelength is 1310m or 1550m, which can transmit a long distance of about 10-40km. In addition, according to the number of fiber cores, pigtails can be divided into single core pigtail, 4-core pigtail, 6-core pigtail, 8-core pigtail, 12 core pigtail, 24 core pigtail, etc., which can be selected according to different needs.

Application of pigtails

One of the most important functions of pigtails is connection. Optical fiber and pigtail are connected to fuse the bare fiber and fiber pigtail into a whole, while the pigtail has a separate optical fiber head, which is connected with the optical fiber transceiver to connect the optical fiber and twisted pair cable to the information socket. In the process of optical fiber fusion, the following main tools are commonly used: optical end box, optical fiber transceiver, pigtail, coupler, special stripper, optical fiber cutter, etc. There are five kinds of common tail fiber interfaces in transmission system, such as SC / PC, FC / PC, LC / PC, E2000 / APC, St / PC.

There are five types of pigtails commonly used in transmission systems:

FC-SC type, which is commonly known as round to square pigtail. FC is connected with ODF box, SC is connected with optical port of equipment. This fiber optic connector was used more in early SBS and Optix devices.

FC-FC type, commonly known as round to round pigtail. It is usually used for fiber hopping between ODF racks.

SC-SC type, commonly known as square to square pigtail, is generally used for the connection of light plates between equipment.

SC-LC type, LC interface commonly known as small square head pigtail, belongs to the card type connector.

LC-LC type, usually used in the internal fiber connection between wavelength division equipment, this application is less.

Pigtails often appear in the optical fiber terminal box, which is used to connect the optical cable and the optical fiber transceiver (couplers and jumpers are also used between them)
