The difference between the WDM module and the ordinary optical module
As a passive optical module, the optical module does not emit laser itself. Generally, the optical plane waveguide technology is used to divide a beam of light into several beams, while the ordinary optical module is an active optical module. Each module has two ports, one for one and one for one. In addition, the WDM module adopts WDM technology, which can effectively save the cost of optical fiber, while the ordinary optical module is not.
Selection of WDM module
When choosing WDM module, the transmission rate, transmission distance and cost should be considered.
1. Transmission rate, according to the requirements of network bandwidth, choose the appropriate package form of WDM module, such as in gigabit Ethernet, choose SFP WDM module; For 10G Ethernet, SFP+ WDM module was selected, and so on.
2. For transmission distance, if it is used in large network environment with long transmission distance, DWDM optical module is selected.
3. Cost, if the transmission distance is not long, from the perspective of cost, choose CWDM optical module.
