How to choose the right 40G optical module?
It is suggested to choose the appropriate 40G optical module flexibly according to the actual transmission distance.
1. In short distance application scenarios, when the transmission distance is less than 1000m, you can choose QSFP 40G SR4, 40Gbase SR bidi, QSFP 40G csr4 or QSFP 40G univ optical module. Both QSFP 40G SR4 and 40Gbase SR bidi optical modules can reach a transmission distance of 150 meters on the optical fiber jumper. The only difference is that the former is transmitted on OM4 optical fiber jumper, while the latter is transmitted on a duplex multimode jumper with LC connector. QSFP 40G CSR4 is an enhanced version of QSFP 40G SR4 optical module. The maximum transmission distance on OM4 fiber jumper is 400m. In addition, QSFP 40G univ optical module can also transmit 150 meters on multi-mode fiber jumper and 500 meters to 2000 meters on single-mode fiber jumper, but the transmission distance varies from supplier to supplier.
2. In long-distance application scenarios, when the transmission distance is greater than 1000 meters, you can choose QSFP 40G plrl4, 40G plr4, WSP q40G lr4l, QSFP 40G LR4 and QSFP 40G Er4 optical modules. Both QSFP 40G plrl4 and 40G plr4 optical modules are equipped with MTP / MPO connectors. The former can transmit a distance of 1km or 1.4km on single-mode optical fiber, while the latter has a link length of 10km.
