Structure comparison of optical pigtail and patch cord

Definition:

optical pigtail is also called pig tail, means that only one side has the connector, while the other side is a bare fiber of optical fiber core, it must need to be welded when connecting with other optical fiber core.

Optical patch cord is a short fiber cable with connectors on both sides. The connector types at both ends of the fiber cable can be either the same or different.

Similarities:

They both have single mode and multimode fiber types, and their connector types can be made into simplex and duplex. In addition, Not only optical pigtail, but also patch cord can be connected with a variety of optical connectors, such as FC, SC, ST, LC, MTRJ, MPO, MU, E2000 etc.

Differences:

The main difference of optical pigtail and patch cord in the structure is that optical patch cord is a fixed length of fiber cable with connectors at both sides, while optical pigtail is the fiber cable with connector at one side. Besides, a complete optical patch cord can be cut into two shorter length optical pigtail.
