Why dispersion compensation DCM required in fiber optic communication links?

In high-speed fiber Communication, the broadening of the modulated signal occurs due to the effect of chromatic dispersion. If there is no dispersion compensation DCM, each signal will be severely broadened,

and even overlap with adjacent signals. Even if the dispersion effect is not very strong, the signal will be severely deformed due to crosstalk between the signals. Therefore, dispersion compensation needs to be performed before signal detection.
