According to the People's Daily, researchers in China have carried out an optical transmission system experiment of 1.06Pbit/s super-capacity wavelength division multiplexing and air division multiplexing, which can enable nearly 30 billion people to talk at the same time on a single optical fiber for the first time. This experiment USES a kind of special optical fiber with a single mode and 19 cores, which can transmit the data stored by about 130 1TB hard disks in one second.
5 years ago, in 2017, we only supported 13.5 billion simultaneous phone calls of one optical fiber. Now, we have supported nearly 30 billion simultaneous phone calls of one optical fiber. I have to say, China's scientific and technological progress is too fast!
