According to the latest report, global sales of broadband access devices fell 8 percent in 2019. PON OLT equipment sales grew 16% to $3 billion a year, the only bright spot in the market. At the same time, DSL and Cable infrastructure sales revenue declined significantly.
"2019 has been a challenging year for broadband access equipment providers, with revenues falling to 2012 levels," said the senior research director for broadband access and home networks. Still, there are positive signs that operators are working on a 10gb upgrade to support premium broadband services. We expect a small increase in the market in 2020, but more competition is needed to stimulate additional spending by operators."
Cable Access Concentrator revenues fell 30 per cent a year to $255m as a result of a slowdown in CCAP licence purchases across all regional markets, according to the report. DOCSIS 3.1 CPE shipments rose to 6 million, accounting for 67% of the total Cable CPE shipments. Driven by more and more operators' continued migration to 10Gbps FTTH networks, XGS-PON OLT port shipments have increased by 222% annually.
