Use of Optical Fiber

The optical fiber used in the communications industry is composed of a core that transmits optical signals through total internal reflection. The core of the optical fiber also needs to be wrapped with a peripheral coating layer to reduce the loss of light in optical signal transmission.

So, what else should we pay attention to during the use of optical fiber?

1. The two sections of optical fiber must be connected to optical modules of the same wavelength to ensure the effectiveness of data transmission;

2. The optical fiber must be wiped clean with alcohol and absorbent cotton before use;

3. The optical fiber should be inserted and unplugged gently during installation, and do not use excessive force, otherwise it will affect the quality of optical communication;

4. Do not look directly at the end face of the optical fiber when the laser signal is being transmitted;

5. Ensure the working environment (temperature, humidity) of the optical fiber;

6. Do not over-bend and surround the optical fiber during use, as this will increase the attenuation of the light during transmission;

7. After the fiber jumper is used, the fiber connector must be protected with a protective cover, otherwise the dust and oil pollution generated will damage the coupling of the fiber;

8. Pay attention to the inherent loss of the fiber and the additional loss caused by the use conditions after the fiber is made, and try to avoid the additional loss caused by man-made.
