Single mode optical module of single mode optical fiber
Single Mode Fiber: the central glass core is very thin (the core diameter is usually 9 or 10 m) and can transmit only one Mode of light. Therefore, the inter-mode dispersion is very small, which is suitable for long-distance communication, but there are also material dispersion and waveguide dispersion, so the single-mode fiber has higher requirements on the spectral width and stability of the light source, that is, the spectrum width is narrow, the stability is better. Later, it was found that at 1.31 m wavelength, the material dispersion and waveguide dispersion of the single-mode fiber were positive and negative, and their sizes were exactly the same. This means that at 1.31 m wavelength, the total dispersion of the single-mode fiber is zero. From the loss characteristics of optical fiber, 1.31 meters is just a low loss window of optical fiber. In this way, the 1.31 m wavelength region becomes a very ideal working window for optical fiber communication, and it is also the main working band of the current practical optical fiber communication system. The main parameters of 1.31 m conventional single-mode optical fiber are determined by the ITU - T in the G652 recommendation, so the optical fiber is also known as G652 optical fiber.
FAQ
1、Question:What are CWDM, DWDM, SFP and GBIC used for? What kind of company buys them?
Answer:These are optical fiber transceivers designed to be used with passive optical multiplexers. If you have a number of these all transmitting on different wavelengths, you can use a passive multiplexer to combine each signal onto a single fiber pair, and then de-multiplex the signal at the far end. Unlike active systems, a passive multiplexer requires no power or management - it's literally a set of waveguides and prisms in a rack mount chassis - which greatly reduces the cost of doing WDM and eliminates a potential point of failure in the system.
2、Question:Can you use a QSFP to 4xSFP+ DAC cable at just 10G with only one of the SFP+ ends?
Answer:
Not exactly sure what you’re trying to get at here, but the easy rule-of-thumb here is that the transceivers at each of a fiber link need to be fundamentally the same.
Even if you’re using a four-lane transmitter at one end, the receiver at the other needs to not only also be four-lane, but in the same band, and with a matching decoder to the encoder at the TX end.
Pretty much any mismatch will prevent the link from operating.
