What is 100g CFP?
CFP, whose full name is pluggable C shape factor, is a multi-source protocol (MSA) used to define the shape factor of optical transceivers used for high-speed digital signal transmission. At the same time, optical connectivity can support 10x10 Gbit / s and 4x25 Gbit / s variants of 100 Gbit / s interconnection. The 100g CFP module provides connectivity options for various service provider transports, data center networks and enterprise core converged applications.
What is 100g qsfp28?
Qsfp28 is a hot pluggable transceiver module designed for 100g data connection in Telecom, data center and network markets. The "Q" of qsfp28 stands for four channels (4 channels). Qsfp28 integrates four transmit and four receive channels. "28" means that each channel can carry up to 28g data rate. Depending on the transceiver used, qsfp28 can be connected with 4x25g branch or 1x100g.
Application of 100g CFP and qsfp28
CFP is one of the recommended 100g optical modules, which is mainly used in man and long distance transmission (usually more than 10 km).
Today, qsfp28 is considered to be the mainstream size of 100g optical modules. There are many qsfp28 products on the market, including qsfp28 DAC / AOC cables and qsfp28 optical modules, such as different types of 100g Sr4 / LR4 / psm4 / cwdm4.
As for 100g CFP and qsfp28, which one should you use in your network construction? In fact, it depends on two main aspects: port type of hardware device and application scheme. The size of CFP module is much larger than that of qsfp28 module. The 100g qsfp28 seems to be the mainstream and is mainly used for qsfp28 Er4 / Zr4 and single-mode fiber switches with shorter distances (0-10 km) or sometimes longer distances (up to 40 / 80 km). Although 100g CFP can also be used in short distance, it is more common in man and remote WDM transmission.
