Functions and applications of OADM

Generally OADM node can be represented by a four-port model, including three basic functions: the wavelength channel required for the drop, the input signal for the uplink, and passing other wavelength channels unaffected. In addition, different OADMs have different functions. For example, FWDM only has one or more fixed wavelengths. Although the passed nodes are determined but not flexible, performance and can save time. ROADM is more flexible and costly. They have reliable performance and can save time. Application

MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)

OADM’s main application area is still MAN (Metropolitan Area Network). Flexible, easy to upgrade and enlarge the network. It is an ideal multi-service transmission platform in MAN applications.

OXC (Optical Cross Connector)

OADM can be used in different optical networks that multiplex signals at different locations and at different wavelengths. The proposed device allows dynamic connection of different networks. On-demand wavelength resources, a wider range of network interconnection. OADM and OXC only need to download the information in the node, which can be sent to the user to operate the device, including ATM switch board, SDH switch board, IP router, etc., which greatly improves the node's ability to process information.
