MPO / MTP cable is usually used in 40Gbe and 100Gbe network environment, and is an important part of structured cabling. We offer a wide range of MPO / MTP cable components, including trunk cables, harness, patch cord, loopback module, Hydra cable and tape (or distribution frame). All components fully comply with IEC standard 61754-7, TIA 604-5 and Telcordia GR-1435-core. We also provide customized design, such as the number of optional optical fibers, cable type and length.
When the MTP / MPO interface uses 40G or 100G active transceivers (such as QSFP + and CFP transceivers), the MTP / MPO jumper cable is usually used. The end of MTP / MPO patch cable can be terminated by 12 core or 24 core MPO connector selected by customers. These cables can be used in a variety of applications, such as all-optical networks and 40G / 100G modules.
With the increase of business volume and the huge demand of users, large enterprise networks begin to upgrade from 10g to 40g to 100g, in which base-24 MTP / MPO structured cabling plays an important role. What do you know about base-24 MTP / MPO structured cabling? How to apply base-24 MTP / MPO structured cabling in 40 / 100g network?
What is 24 core MTP / MPO structured cabling?
Base-24 MTP / MPO structured cabling is a high-density cabling solution based on 24 core MTP / MPO connection. Compared with the base-24 architecture with three 8-core MTP connectors or two 12 core MTP connectors, one 24 core MTP connector can realize the base-24 architecture and provide higher density.
Base-24 structured cabling scheme in 40 / 100G network
Compared with the traditional single core and double core fiber routing, base-24 MTP structured routing has more advantages to some extent. The dual core duplex LC connector takes up the same space as the separate MTP connector, but the smaller MTP connector can support 24 cores, which can achieve higher connection density. Therefore, when the network grows from 10Gbps to 40g or 100g, it will use base-24 MTP structured cabling, which can support more advanced applications (such as AR, VR). Base-24 MTP structured cabling based on 24 core MTP connection can provide different types of solutions for 40G / 100G networks. The following are typical types of base-24 MTP structured cabling solutions.
Base-24 cabling scheme 1: MTP jumper main cross connect
As shown in the figure below, 24 core MTP optical fiber jumper can realize 24 core to dual core conversion by using 24 core mtp-lc optical fiber distribution box. Compared with 8-core and 12 core MTP optical fiber jumpers, 24 core MTP optical fiber jumper can obtain higher port density, which is higher than that of 8-core MTP optical fiber jumper. In addition, for the realization of 144 core, the area based on 24 core MTP connector is about 30% less than that based on 12 core MTP connector, which is three times less than that of 12 core MTP fiber jumper. Because of this, 24 core MTP fiber jumper is very popular in high-density applications.

Base-24 cabling scheme 2: LC jumper main cross connect
Different from MTP cross connection, this scheme is suitable for the case of limited 24 core MTP optical fiber jumpers (without other 24 core MTP optical fiber jumpers). In order to increase the network scale, mtp-lc optical fiber distribution box and duplex LC optical fiber jumper are used to establish communication links between two 24 core MTP optical fiber jumpers, so that dual fiber and parallel multi fiber connection can be realized on the optical fiber.
Base-24 cabling scheme 3: using MTP branch jumper
Different from solution 1, the MTP branch optical fiber jumper and MTP optical fiber adapter panel in this solution replace the mtp-lc optical fiber wiring box and LC optical fiber jumper combination part in solution 1. This change greatly increases the panel. In this solution, the 8-port 24 core MTP optical fiber adapter panel can support up to 192 core optical fibers. For qsfp applications, the density of 24 core MTP panel is three times that of 8-core MTP panel under the same port (such as 8 ports).
Base-24 routing scheme 4: MTP parallel connection
Structured cabling with base-8 / base-12 MTP and base-24 MTP can support a wider range of parallel applications. For example, base-24 MTP structured cabling can provide 100g SR-10 applications with only ten pairs of 10x10g multimode optical fibers. Even some suppliers have extended 100g SR-10 applications to 12x10g (120g), and 24 core MTP optical fiber jumper can also provide the simplest and direct connection for their applications.
Among them, in the 120g parallel application, the 120g port can be configured as 12 independent 10g access, and then connected with the server through 24 core mtp-12lc duplex branch optical fiber jumper. At the same time, it can also be configured as three 40g wires to connect with the network switch through 24 core mtp-3x8 core MTP optical fiber jumper.
In conclusion, base-24 MTP structured cabling based on 24 core MTP connection is the most cost-effective solution for deploying parallel and duplex fiber applications. Compared with 3 8-core MTP connectors and 2 12 core MTP connectors, 24 core MTP connectors provide higher density and effectively prolong the cleaning and inspection time of MTP system during installation.
