The difference between LC, SC, FC and St optical fiber jumpers

(1) FC type optical fiber jumper

It is generally used in ODF side, and the most commonly used is on distribution frame. The utility model has the advantages of reliable and dust proof.

It has the characteristics of low price and small fluctuation of access loss. It is commonly used for 100g base-fx connection.

(3) LC type optical fiber jumper

Developed by Bell Institute, the joint is similar to SC but smaller than SC. The size of pin and sleeve is 1.25 mm, which is half of the size of common SC and FC. To connect the optical modules of SFPs, which are commonly used in routers, can improve the density of fiber connectors in the fiber distribution frame to a certain extent.

(4) St type optical fiber jumper

The shell is round, the fastening method is screw buckle, and the core is exposed. The plug is fixed by a bayonet after it is inserted and rotated for half a circle. It is often used as 10base-f connector, and is mostly used in optical fiber distribution frame.

(5) MPO / MTP optical fiber jumper

It is a high-density optical fiber jumper, which is usually molded in the MT pin with precision mold. This is a push-pull interface, the cost of each terminal is relatively low, can be used in high-density applications. It is usually used in ribbon fiber patch cord or ribbon sector multimode fiber. Fiber optic MPO has multiple glass cores, and MTP is an upgraded version of MPO.


Different fiber types lead to different transmission modes. According to different fiber types and transmission modes, optical fiber jumper can be divided into single-mode fiber jumper and multimode fiber jumper. The single-mode optical fiber jumper generally adopts OS1 / os29 / 125 fiber glass with the outer layer of yellow, while the multi-mode fiber jumper generally adopts the optical fiber glass of om1 62.5/125 or om250 / 125, and the outer layer is orange. In addition, there are OM3 multimode fiber mainly used in 10G network transmission and OM4 and om5 multimode fiber used in 40g / 100g network transmission. (1) OS2 single mode fiber jumper

The outer sheath of OS2 single-mode optical fiber jumper is mostly yellow, the wavelength and maximum attenuation value are 1550nm and 0.4db/km respectively. Generally, it is matched with FHD optical fiber distribution box, and the transmission distance can reach more than 1km, which can meet a variety of different wiring requirements. There are two kinds of OS2 fiber jumper: single-mode simplex fiber jumper and single-mode duplex optical fiber jumper. The main difference between them is that the fiber grade is different, and the single-mode duplex fiber jumper is more widely used.

(2) Om1 multimode fiber jumper

The full injection bandwidth of 850 / 1300nm is 200 / 500 MHz.km 50um or 62.5um core diameter multimode fiber. The outer sheath of om1 multi-mode optical fiber jumper is generally orange, with large core diameter and numerical aperture, and has strong light collection ability and bending resistance.

(3) Om2 multimode fiber jumper

The full injection bandwidth of 850 / 1300nm is 500 / 500 MHz.km 50um or 62.5um core diameter multimode fiber. The outer sheath of om2 multi-mode fiber jumper is generally orange, and the core diameter and numerical aperture are relatively small, which effectively reduces the mode dispersion of the multimode fiber, significantly increases the bandwidth and reduces the production cost by 1 / 3.

(4) OM3 multimode fiber jumper

It is a 50um core diameter multimode fiber optimized by 850nm laser. In 10Gb / s Ethernet with 850nm VCSEL, the fiber transmission distance can reach 300m. The outer sheath of OM3 multi-mode optical fiber jumper is generally water blue, and the flame retardant material is adopted at the same time, which can prevent the spread of flame, prevent the emission of smoke, acid gas and toxic gas, and meet the needs of 10Gb / s transmission rate.

(5) Om5 multimode fiber jumper

It is a new type of optical fiber, supporting the wavelength range of 850nm to 953nm, and the outer sheath is generally aqua green. Om5 fiber patch cord can use only two core fiber (instead of eight core) to ensure 40Gb / s and 100GB / s transmission, which can not only ensure high data transmission rate, but also greatly reduce the number of optical fiber and network deployment costs. At the same time, it can be backward compatible with OM3 and OM4 cabling, which greatly facilitates the network expansion.
