The Israel Innovation Agency (IIA) said on Wednesday that Israel has launched a plan to develop advanced communications applications to expand and improve the country’s 5G infrastructure.
The plan includes five pilot projects, which will be carried out by five selected companies.
The first project includes the deployment of a private 5G network at the Dead Sea Works potash plant of the Israeli Chemical Company (ICL) and the Mekorot National Water Company to expand the coverage of private organizations.
The other one will process video streams from multiple smart city cameras on 5G cellular infrastructure.
The third project will involve the communication technology of the 5G network medical center in the northern Rambam Hospital, while the fourth project will test advanced security solutions and MEC (mobile edge computing) applications in a real-world environment.
Fifth is the 5G system proof of concept conducted in cooperation with the General Directorate of Defense Research and Development (MAFAT) of the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
The International Investment Agreement and the Israeli Ministry of Transportation provided a total of 12.5 million New Shekels (approximately USD 3.89 million) in grants to selected companies to support their pilot activities.
IIA said: “The plan aims to create a major breakthrough, making Israel the only national group to develop technologies for applications that aim to change our lifestyle in the 5G environment.”
