The 100GBASE-SR10 optical module standard adopts the data transmission flow technology based on the original mature duplex multimode fiber 10Gb/s. The network is a star topology structure, using 850nm low-cost fiber, and the transmission distance can reach 100m, which is the first Ethernet applications that use more than 2-core optical fiber transmission at a time.

The 100GBASE-LR4 optical module standard supports dense wavelength division multiplexing technology. It uses 1310nm single-mode fiber with a higher cost than SR. The physical network media-related layer transmits signals at 4 times the optical wavelength on a single pair of fibers, which requires complex fiber positioning. Supports up to 10km transmission.

The 100GBASE-ER4 optical module standard can support the use of dense wavelength division multiplexing technology, single-mode optical fiber series transmission scheme, using 1550nm ultra-long wavelength optical fiber, the network physical media related layer, each single-mode optical fiber transmits more than 4 wavelengths in each direction , A common semiconductor optical amplifier is required to transmit a distance of up to 40km.

The 100GBase-PSM4 optical module standard adopts a tube shell and interface form similar to 100GBase-SR4, using a single-mode fiber as the transmission medium, using a 1310nm laser light source interface, and docking with a single-mode MTP/MPO fiber connector. The longest distance using conventional OS2 single-mode optical fiber is up to 500m, and the application within this distance uses 100GBase-PSM4 optical module at lower cost.

100G CLR4 and 100G CWDM4 are 100G transmission modules based on single-mode coarse wavelength division multiplexing technology, using 4 channels of 25Gbps signals, fiber optic transceivers using single-mode laser light source, using LC duplex interface, each core fiber supports 4 long wavelength bands For signal transmission, the 4 emission windows are 1271nm, 1291nm, 1311nm and 1331nm, and each waveband transmits 25G. Suitable for transmission applications with a transmission distance of 2km.

100GBase-SWDM4 adopts the short-band wavelength division multiplexing technology. For the first time, the wavelength division multiplexing technology is applied to the short-wave band of multimode fiber, and the optical signal of 4 bands is transmitted on a single-core multimode fiber. The windows of the four bands in the multimode fiber are 850nm, 880nm, 910nm and 940nm respectively. The highest point of bandwidth performance using a new generation of multimode fiber WBMMF is around the 880nm band and the highest bandwidth point is higher than that of traditional OM4 multimode fiber.

Among the many standards, the PSM4 and CWDM4 standards formulated by the multi-source agreement (MSA) industry organization are more suitable for the mainstream 100G QSFP28 optical modules on the market.
